We are the Walrus … it is the first chapter for a trilogy on contest music, a project that involves the creation of three choreographic works for the Arearea Company. The intention is to revisit the phenomenon of the youth movement that at the turn of the 60s and 70s produced radical changes in costume, from music to cinema to fashion, in social and interpersonal relationships, in those between fathers and children.
We are the Walrus … investigates the phenomenon of psychedelia in rock music of the 1960s and how it influenced and accompanied young people’s lives.
The title is inspired by I am the Walrus, a song written by Lennon in an acid journey, the result of a collage of psychedelic inspirations.
We are the Walrus …
We are the Walrus, we are the Elementary Penguins singing Hare Krishna. When the Carpenter mirrors himself in the water and sees himself as an oyster, Alice gives surreal advice to the lousy person sitting in the English garden waiting for the sun to rise. In reality, she is a boy, and you can guess from how you lower your panties (however, the BBC says no). On the horizon, you can see an unidentified pink flying object, and it is only the beginning of a journey to the thirteenth floor. Follow the white rabbit, don’t ask yourself questions, let the unity of things flow, the dance of infinity: each of us is the wave, but also the ocean.
I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. And our children will wander naked through the cities of the universe.
