Fritz’s eyes, too, spoke a revealing language.
Though half-blind, they nevertheless had nothing of the peering, blinking, unwanted intrusiveness that so many nearsighted people have: they looked instead like the guardians and protectors of their own treasures, their own mute secrets, not to be touched by the unauthorized.
